On simplicity.

I've been thinking a lot on simplicity lately. I think that if I can simplify, then I can be more focused and efficient, which are things that I need to work on. Have you ever felt like you've lost your vision? I want to develop more of a focus, and work on some really great stuff and do that well.

I want to establish a more cohesive shop... really get into the branding and image of Swallow's Heart. The packaging, displays, advertising, merchandise, blog, social media - I want it all to be unified.

Basically, I'm learning how to transform a hobby into a small business. It's a lot of fun, but I have this ever-growing to-do list that can sometimes bring on feelings of doubt, stress, insecurities... but this is something that I really wanna do, so over the next few weeks and months I'm going to really focus on what I want Swallow's Heart to look like. It sounds so silly, but in regards to my shop, I want to be true to myself. Gotta make this something that I'm proud of.

Simplicity. That's where it's at.

What do you think of when you think of Swallow's Heart?

  1. Hey, I loved this post thank you so much for writing it! I run my own handmade jewellery, small town business in Canada (and I'm still a teenager) and I understand how easy it is to get wrapped up in trying to appeal to everyone else that you lose sight of your own style and the reason why you love doing what you love. It really inspired me to re-evaluate what message I want to send out with my every creation! :) Thank you!

  2. i love your diversity! i think its great i can go to your shop and easily pick out something i would love, and something my mom would love, and something for my best friend, etc. But mostly i love the originality, that i know i couldnt find it anywhere else. and of course the prices can't be beat!

I fell in love with the name when a friend told me about it even before I saw your beautiful jewelry. I love everything you make, and I love the part also owls and oaks, what a beautiful lasting tribute to your friend and baby Maddox. I look forward to seeing you at market Days on Broadway each Saturday.
